Pawleys Island Land Area Info

Originally inhabited by the Waccamaw and Winyah Native Americans, “Chiquola” or “Chicora” as they called the area, means “the Land”. Named after the Waccamaw and Winyah Rivers, these Indians were the first to experience all Pawleys Island land can offer. Now, steeped in history, our area has maintained these elements and protected the rich culture, making this a true outdoor-lover’s paradise. From the wildlife and nature preserves, national state parks, world class golfing, hunting, and fishing, options are unlimited to enjoy the great outdoors in all seasons. While the beautiful beaches, winding rivers, and lush marshes may have brought you here, our unique landscape and expansive culture will keep you here.
