Wooden Boat Show

This annual event is hosted in downtown Georgetown, South Carolina along Front Street and behind the businesses along the HarborWalk that borders the Sampit River. Georgetown, named for King George, is one of the oldest port cities in America. Hundreds come to the historical downtown setting and take part in a day of fun and festivities enjoyed by young and old alike.

 

Georgetown Wooden Boat Show features include:

• boat building competition (beginning at noon)

• model boat building

• arts and crafts with a maritime focus

• boat raffles

• wooden boat exhibits

• musical entertainment

• food booths

 

The exhibition of vessels may include categories of:

row, canoe, kayak, surfboard, sail, inboard power, outboard power, classic sail built prior to 1960, classic power built prior to 1960, owner designed and built, and century class 100 years or older.

 

The Georgetown Wooden Boat Show will culminate in the boat building two-person teams racing against their competitors across the Sampit River to test seaworthiness in a rowing relay. Cash prizes will be awarded.

 

An awards banquet is held for exhibitors, competitors, sponsors, and guests in the evening.

 

Proceeds from this event from sales and donations aide the development of the Harbor Historical Association's maritime museum.
