Sandollar is almost Perfect For Us

We are very happy with the facilities at Sandollar overall. The kitchen is well equipped, the beds were a+ comfortable, bathrooms were fine, but the living room furniture has the most uncomfortable seating that we've ever encountered on the island. Since we visit in the fall, the days are shorter and cooler and we spend more time inside than summer visitors would. We try padding the bamboo frames with blankets and towels to provide more comfort, but after an hour or so of sitting together, our group breaks up and everyone heads for the bedrooms. We truly appreciate some of the other amenities such as the two refrigerators and a TV in all of the bedrooms. If we could just get out of the furniture without assistance, we'd truly be in heaven.

We have been coming to Pawleys for 30 years and have stayed in many different houses, including Sandollar a few times. Have never been disappointed!

The Sand Dollar is our favorite place

We love the Sand Dollar with screened porches on both the creek side and the beach. The beach is so close that it's like your own back yard. The floor plan is great, and there is a TV in every room!

Great access to beach and marsh

This is not a spiffy place; the porch floor needed painting and one of the king-size beds was not terribly comfortable. However, for those not expecting top-of-the line, Sand Dollar offered a fabulous experience. Grandkids on the beautiful beach could be watched from rockers on the screened porch. The dock on the marsh offered wonders of crabs and other kid delights. Two stoves (one gas, one electric) were sparkling clean as was the kitchen which offered plenty of kitchen equipment for family cooking. The a/C, washer/dryer and TVs all worked perfectly. Regrettably, the row boat pictured on-line was locked down. I would have liked a key to explore the marsh with grandkids. There were nice family-oriented neighbors up and down the beach. We asked for and expected no service, so I did not rate that category.

I don't think we have ever been so close to the beach.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The "beach" by the creek dock was wonderful for our small grand daughters. The screened in porch on the front was so close we could talk with the members of the family on the beach. The small dock below the screened in porch has some sagging boards and felt a little unsteady. Would have been nice to have steps going down to the beach rather than having to approach it from under the house. Although there was a great amount of kitchenware, someone really needs to cull through the duplicates. I organized the pots so that the set with the glass lids was all in one cabinet. There were far too many pitchers for tea and lemonade taking up valuable cabinet space. The frying pans need to be updated with at least one good teflon coated one. The appliances all worked well. I would suggest ceiling fans be placed in all bedrooms as the back bedrooms in particular got very hot during the night from lack of circulation. Overall, we had a lovely vacation. Thanks. The Sanddollar is a wonderful place to stay. There was plenty of room. The hammock on the front porch was great. It's a quiet place from morning to night. I wish the outdoor shower was enclosed. Also there needs to be steps coming off the ocean side of the front deck. It would just make it a little easier to bring your things in after a day on the beach. I've stayed at a couple of other houses at Pawley's, and I have to say I like this one best. It's just simple. Vicki at Lachicotte was very helpful. She searched until she found just what I was looking for. Thanks Vicki. The Sanddollar would definitely be my choice again in the future. Thanks. V

This is a wonderful location. on ocean on marsh, doesn't get better. Not fancy, but has all you really need. Screened porch on back and front, dock on marsh. We've loved it for years. My grandchildren think this is my house since that's where they see me. Kitchen is well supplied.Feels like a beach home not a hotel or motel which is what we want! Wonderful memories.

What's with no stairs to beach!?

I'd never stay at this house again because you have to go under the house and up the dune to get to the beach! Why are there no stairs from the beachside porch to the beach!? It's not to protect the dune, because you have to schlepp thru the briars and under-house debris and up and over the dune to access the beach.
Manager Response: 11/12/2009
Upon the managers perusal, no debris was found under the house except tables and chairs. The owner has been given a copy of this review and knows of the complaint of lack of stairs providing easier beach access.
