Nice Place, needs some TLC

Our group stayed at 5 Star this past week. There were 7 of us and the house was plenty spacious enough. The book shelf and DVD/Video selection had a lot to offer. The large flat screen T.V. worked well. The stereo was a nice surprise and accommodated our iphones/ipods. For the money the place could use some updates. My biggest complaint was the window treatments. Both ocean facing rooms had see-through blinds, sleeping in was impossible. It also felt weird undressing knowing you could be seen from passers by, which there were plenty of because of the proximity to the ocean. Both showers drains upstairs did not drain, we stood in inches of water. The guys just used the outside showers in the garage, which was actually better. There was no hot water upstairs either in each shower for the duration of our week. The kitchen was full of useless decorative stuff where a basic can opener would have been nice. There were quality knives though. The fan in the upstairs bath rattled like something out of a cheap motel 8. The best part of the house was the back screened porch. A beautiful dining set with thick wicker chairs sat on one side, even though we never used it, it was too hot to eat outside. On the opposite side was a seating area with comfy chairs and a cute wicker glider. The view to the dock was serene and entertaining. Two ceiling fans spun for the duration and kept the area at a cool 85. Another sort of weird accoutrement was the home owner's idea of decorating. She/he had way too many personal photos. I felt like I was intruding. All the beds were newish, but way too soft for my comfort. It would have been nice to have one large mattress that was 'hard'. Check out time was at 10 o'clock. The maids were there at 9:15 giving us the bums rush. Luckily we were just leaving. Pawleys has been a special place for my husband. His family has gone to Pawleys for many years and we started a tradition with our family. I think 5 Star has been out best house yet.

Love the view

We've been coming to Pawleys for 20 years. This is the 1st year we haven't been on the south end with our back deck on the beach and our dock on the creek. For us, we prefer being on the beach, so we're headed back next year. However, if you don't mind a 200 yard walk to the beach, this house is for you. The place is very roomy, the crow's nest is fantastic, the location on the creek is outstanding. Floating the creek is much better on the north end. Again, if you don't have to put your feet in the surf as soon as you take the last step off your back deck, this house would disappoint you. However, if you're used to being one row back, you can't beat this place.

A nice house with quirky charms

We enjoyed our stay at Five Stars. "Beach front" is a bit of a stretch - while there are no houses on the beach in front of Five Stars, it is quite a hike to a place appropriate for swimming. (Although, it seems to be a great spot for people who love to fish.) However, the dock access to the creek in back is a real plus. The kitchen is well stocked and the floor plan feels spacious. The eating area furniture could be more comfortable (straight back chairs that you could envision in a 17th century estate) but we managed to enjoy many meals anyway. There are a lot of steps, inside and out, so anyone with mobility problems would find this a difficult place to stay.

Great Family Beach/Creek House

This is a wonderful home with great amenities. I love the 1st floor master bedroom with large master bath. Upstairs layout is great for 2 families with kids...an ocean facing bedroom with jack and jill bath which links to the "kids" creek-side bedroom on each side(4 upstairs bedrooms). The best is the crows-nest on top which looks out at the spectacular scenery of the creek and cut through to the ocean on the north beach. The kitchen is wonderfully stocked; we always get lots of crabs with the crab trap on the dock; there is a big gas grill and a little weber grill. We have stayed at this home for at least 5 years. There is a boardwalk to use to get to the beach and wonderful tide-pools and a huge beach at low tide. It is one of the choice spots on Pawley's Island.

Great house. Great furnishings, great amenities including tons of books to read and DVDs/videos to watch. The crow's nest upstairs is a blast, especially at night. Deep creek access right around the corner from the inlet. We rented kayaks and paddle boards from Surf the Earth and were able to drop right in from the dock. We had some issues with the AC upstairs, but Lachicotte's was prompt to address. We would have given the home a "higly recommended" but we are accustomed to the south end of the island where the ocean is literally 20-30 feet away from the house.

Great house on Pawley's! Spacious, Great back porch, Well stocked kitchen, Wonderful views. Only thing I would change is another bathroom on main floor so guests don't use the master bath.

EXPENSIVE

Our stay at the Five Star was enjoyable but not worth the price tag. The dock is only good for fishing. There is no access for boats and canoes. We have moved on the another house with a dock for boats. The house was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was large and the dining area was big enough for our crowd.
