Plantation Tours
Prince George Winyah Episcopal Church offers their annual Plantation Tours in the spring. Most plantation sites, historic homes, and town houses in and near Georgetown, South Carolina are privately owned and are shared once a year during the tours. The event is sponsored by the Episcopal Church Women of Prince George Winyah Parish.
Stroll along paths bordered by mature azaleas and covered by a canopy of live oak tree branches draped with spanish moss. Enter the porches and pass through the vestibules and up spiraling staircases with well worn banisters to experience the life as it was in years gone by. Experience the vistas of marshland and ricefields as the canals and rivers meander through the time tested landscape. Learn of the history and heritage that sustained the culture that was pre-revolutionary and antebellum Georgetown.
End your day with the true hospitality that is alive and well in the South with treats of homemade baked goods during the afternoon tea for all touring visitors at the Winyah Indigo Society hall. Homemade goodies, local art, and Georgetown Historical Society books will be on sale in the Parish Hall.
This year's event will be held March 25 & 26, 2011.
