Pawleys Island Community
Often described as "arrogantly shabby,” Pawleys Island offers a casual and simplistic lifestyle that appeals to its most diverse population. Located 25 miles south of Myrtle Beach and 70 miles north of Charleston, This beautiful, narrow island, which stretches four miles long, is tagged as "the oldest seaside resort in America." Charming, historic homes date back to the late 1700's or early 1800's and still posses their original quaintness. Pawleys Island is a hidden jewel with pristine white sandy beaches and is renowned for its surf.
Known for its world-class, challenging golf courses, the Pawleys Island community is also home to many diverse housing developments. There are a variety of new single-family homes and villas, as well as condos that reflect the relaxed-style of living with a long list of amenities. Many communities include pools tennis courts and fitness centers.
Although Pawleys has become less secluded and more upscale than it was only a decade ago, the area still retains its charming, easy going atmosphere and known for its shoeless, carefree, laid-back life style, which includes crabbing in the adjacent creeks, fishing, the stories of ghosts, the rope hammocks and the pristine, unsophisticated, casual, delightful stretch of wide beach and sand dunes.
Bordered and protected on the North by Huntington State Park and in the South by Hobcaw Barony, the area of Litchfield is home to largest wildlife sanctuaries and offers a very special community built around beach activities, tennis, golf at one of three major golf courses, a private water park for children on the grounds, walking, biking and hiking paths which extend for miles through some of the loveliest southern marshlands.
North Litchfield is a large beach neighborhood and home to year-round residents and vacation home owners alike. Oceanfront, off ocean and lakefront homes as well as a few homesites are available. North Litchfield is bordered on the north end by Huntington Beach State Park.
South Litchfield was developed in the 1960's and is now a popular beach destination offering oceanfront, off-ocean and creekfront homes. Inside the gated community of Inlet Point on the south end of the beach are villas and homes with beach access, pools, and boat docks.
Between North and South Litchfield, Litchfield by the Sea is a unique beachside community offering homeowners, visitors and vacationers a unique life style. DeBordieu Colony is a beautiful oceanfront community that sits along six and a half miles of private beaches. The community's commitment to preserving the natural environment is evident as you drive around this peaceful community. DeBordieu Colony is also conveniently located minutes away from Pawleys Island, just an hour north of Charleston, and only 45 minutes south of Myrtle Beach. Amenities that residents enjoy include and Oceanfront Beach Club, an Oceanfront Pool and Gazebo Bar, Golf and Tennis. It is located just south of Myrtle Beach, SC right between Pawleys Island and Historic Georgetown. Within 30 minutes you can be in Myrtle Beach and enjoy all of golf courses, restaurants and tourist attractions Myrtle Beach is popular for. However just a few minutes away is both Pawleys Island and Historic Georgetown. Both offer remnants of rice plantation and historical sites.
