What Are Boiled Peanuts?
If you rented with us during the summer, you might have been offered boiled peanuts from the front desk staff. If not, I bet you saw them in the grocery store or on the side of the road. If you are unfamiliar with boiled peanuts.... below you will find more information about the official snack of the state.
Peanuts are in season during the months of August and September. Boiled peanuts taste best when they are pulled from the ground and placed into a pot for boiling. That is why roadside boiled peanuts taste best during the early fall and summer.
If you want to make your own boiled peanuts, it is very simple. If a person can boil water, they can make boiled peanuts. It is best if you use fresh raw peanuts from the field that have not been dried.
Since peanuts freeze well, you can buy them in bulk during prime time than freeze for the off season. It is recommended that you boil them for a few minutes, drain and cool before placing them in the freezer. Or you can cook them fully and package them for later.
2 pounds peanuts - 3 ounces salt - 3 gallons water
- Wash the peanuts until the water runs clear. Than soak for an additional 30mins to remove any remaining dirt.
- Drain peanuts and place in pot
- Add salt
- Cook on high for 4 hours ( cooking time can vary based on freshness of peanuts. The fresher the peanuts, the less time it takes)
- Check peanuts throughout cooking time to see if they are done. They are done when they have a similar texture to a cooked dry bean. They should keep it shape and not crunch when bitten.
- Drain peanuts
- Store covered in refrigerator
Peanuts stay fresh for about 10 days
* Some people like to add extra seasonings such as Cajun.

Building a sandcastle is not just for the little ones. It is a fun activity that the whole family can enjoy together. Below are some tips to build the prefect sandcastle.
- Location: Avoid building in areas that have a high amount of foot traffic. Also, avoid building too close to the shore.
- Foundation: Just like your home, a strong foundation is key.
-In order to build the prefect sandcastle, the sand must be wet. By adding water, sand sticks together so it can be shaped. We recommend packing down the wet sand for the best results. Also, let the water drain before using.
- To know if sand is wet enough, take a ball of sand, roll it in your hands. If it stays together than it is ready.
Bucket: You are going to need lots of water. To save you time and energy , fill up a large bucket of water to keep near the building site.
Tools: You may build with only your two hands but the following tools make the experience easier.
- Long handled lightweight shovel
- Carving tools
- Shave away in thin layers. It is always easier to take away sand than add.
- Work from top to bottom: This way you are less likely to ruin the design with your knee or falling sand.
- If creating small details, blow away extra sand with a straw.
Lastly, the most important tip.... Have fun!
While nothing beats a day at the beach, the truth is, the beach can be dangerous. To ensure you and your family have a great time and no one gets hurts, follow the below tips.
- Inexperienced swimmers and young swimmer should wear a US Coast Guard approved life jacket.
- If the beach has a life guard, swim near the lifeguard and with a buddy.
- Use sunscreen.
- Drink lots of water. Also do not mix swimming and alcohol.
- Know what the flags mean and obey the signs.
A)Red flags indicate strong surf and currents
B) Yellow flags indicate moderate surf and currents
C) Green flags indicate the ocean is calm or clear
D) Blue or purple flags often indicate that potentially dangerous marine life (think sharks or jellyfish) are in the area or have been spotted nearby.
- Check the weather. Wait 30 minutes after the last thunder boom to head to the beach.
- Never turn your back to the waves.
- Pay attention while walking for holes dug by children.
- Rip Currents
Do not fight the current.
- Jellyfish are common but are rarely serious. They might require first aid treatment.
- Watch small children closely.
- Leash your boogie board or surfboard.
Thinking of heading to Pawleys this weekend for Memorial Day? Personally, I think its a great idea. The weather is going to be beautiful. If you never been to Pawleys around Christmas time, than you are missing out on my favorite event, Brookgreen Nights of a Thousand Candles. Tickets to this event are $16 for adults and $8 for children. This year the event took place December 5 -7, 12 - 14, and 19- 21.
What is Brookgreen Nights of a Thousand Candles ?
Brookgreen Nights of a Thousands Candles is when you walk threw gardens that are lighted by over 5,500 hand-lit-candles and countless sparking lights. Many walk the path with a cup of warm cider sold at the food and beverage tent. While walking enjoy the sound of hand bells ringing and carolers singing.
Below are some pictures that I took this year.

Each year the Low Country sees countless visitors and many return year after year. One way these returning visitors can own a slice of paradise is with Interval Ownership. Many people get this confused with timeshares but they are different. With a timeshare, you have the right to use a property while interval’s you own the property. Intervals are becoming popular because many people cannot afford to own a vacation home unless it is an interval.
Intervals are divided equally among owners. Typically there are anywhere from 4 to 8 owners. These owners have the ability to rent out their weeks if wanted. Most people have two, one-week vacations but can have more depending on how many they purchased. Intervals end up paying for themselves because you no longer pay for a hotel room. Part of being the owner involves you paying property taxes, condo fee’s, and maintenance. But you may be able to get a tax benefit by claiming it as an alternative property.
As the owner you have the freedom to sell your share whenever you want.
Call us today to find out more about buying an interval.
Labor day has come and gone. Summer is officially over but that does not mean it is too late for a vacation in Pawleys. Some may even argue that now is the best time to rent your favorite beach house.
Why September in Pawleys?
1.) The kids are back to school, this means the summer traffic is gone. You can still enjoy your favorite low country activity but now with a little peace and quite.
2.) September starts the cooling down of the weather. You can finally walk outside without sweating but still enjoy weather that is warm enough for the beach. The cooling down of the weather means one thing, golf season has begun. Fall is known as golf season in the low country.
3.) For all the fisherman out there, fall brings better fishing. For example the bigger wahoo appear offshore and the reds inshore.
4.) Lastly everyone's favorite reason to visit during the fall, the off season rates begin. Call 843-237-3366 for pricing.
The calendar of events for September include Atalya Craft Festival and Pawleys Island Festival of Music and Art.
The Lachicotte Company is pleased to announce a competition to conceptualize a slogan for its Vacation Rentals department.
Since 1991, The Lachicotte Company has been assisting families in making timeless memories during their vacations in Pawleys Island. The company's current slogan "Living the Lowcountry Lifestyle for a Week... or for a Lifetime!" creatively markets the idea of renting a home to eventually buying one in the area, supporting both the sales and rentals departments of the company. With 2012's merger, there has been a great addition to the sales team as well as a second office in Myrtle Beach. We feel the Vacation Rentals department needs its own slogan, and have decided to hold this contest as a fun way to find one.
