Shelling

Description:
Looking for unusual shells or deep sea offerings along Debordieu, Litchfield and Pawleys Island beaches of the South Carolina shore is no new endeavor. But with the recent dredging of the distant ocean sands to replenish the beaches, many people can be seen morning, noon, and evening roaming the shoreline seeking and finding unique shells to add to their collections or to take to family and friends.

The girl shown here, Doc Lachicotte's granddaughter, found this sand dollar along the shore of DeBordieu when they were spending vacation time at their beach house this summer.

At the south end of Pawleys Island, shellers have found starfish, small conch shells, and live crabs who run from chasing children! Go to the tide chart and see when you can find what the sea leaves behind each day as the tide recedes. Also, look up various types of shells online.
